Alcone Dirac XT

The Dirac was developed by request of many customers who asked for a Langrange XT in the typical D'Appolito arrangement. This loudspeaker is ideally suited for both hi-fi and home cinema.

The 2 way bass reflex, floorstanding Dirac XT is an Alcone-VIFA kit consisting of a magnetically shielded ring radiator Vifa XT 300 and two magnetically shielded Alcone AC5.25 HES.

Vifa Ringstrahler XT 300

The Dirac XT features the following characteristics:

  • well matched bass
  • well balanced sound and excellent imaging
  • high transparency
  • warm and pleasant bass
  • beautiful, slim design (height x width x depth): 110 x 23 x 28 cm

Technical data:

  • frequency response: 39-30 000 Hz (-8dB)
  • crossover frequency: 2700 Hz
  • SPL at rated input: 91 dB (2,83V/1m)

The Alcone Dirac XT kit consists of:

  • 1 x VIFA XT-300 KS/4 tweeter, 4 Ohm
  • 2 x mid / bass drivers Alcone AC 5.25, 8 Ohm, shielded
  • 1 x bi-wiring terminal with gold plated brass binding posts
  • 2 x bags damping material (1/2 for upper section)
  • 1 x crossover - as kit, see below
  • 18 x screws 4 x 20 mm
  • foam sealing tape for drivers
  • 4m cable for internal wiring, 2x1,5 mm2)

The crossover consists of:
  • air core coil 1,0 mH / 1,4 mm
  • 1x air core coil 0,15 mH / 0,7 mm
  • 1x air core coil 0,39 mH / 0,7 mm
  • Mundorf MKP capacitor 5,6 uF / 400 V
  • Mundorf MKP capacitor 1,0 uF / 400 V
  • 2x Mundorf MKP capacitor 8,2 uF / 400 V
  • 2x MOX4 resistor, 0,33 Ohm (orange-orange-silver)

Extremely linear, a slight reduction of mids to lower presence was not necessary to implement.

Sound description: Although the Dirac's design is quite different to the Pascal's and deploys a totally different crossover (capacitors in the high frequency circuit) they both sound absolutely the same. The Pascal, however, is a more forward, can take considerably more power and shows a higher sound pressure level.

- a XT-300 VS/4 with metal instead of plastic plate
- a 1 mH air core coil with 2,0 mm instead 1,4 mm wire diameter

- selected pairs of XT 300 with metal plate,
- silver plated cables for internal wiring,
- 2x Mundorf MCAP Supreme for high frequency circuit, 2x Mundorf audiophile MCAP
- 2x CFC copper foil coils and 1x baked varnish coil,
- 1x fleece as damping material and 4x Bawotumex (bitumen covered with cotton) for the side panels.
- the change in coils requires resistors (MOX10) of 0,47 Ohm.

Dirac XT Satellite and Centre

The Alcone Dirac is also available as compact satellite version 44x19x30cm (left), or as centre speaker for surround sound systems(below right). Dirac Satellit

The Alcone Dirac is ideally suited for surround sound system since: - all 5 systems show the same sound characteristics - the bass response (can not be located) is the only difference between satellite/centre and front speakers .
- the Dirac is full fledged speaker whose bass response is more than adequate for demanding surround sound systems. - this range of speakers shows an excellent price/performance ratio (many reviews in Klang+Ton) and features magnetically shielded drivers.
