Review in Klang+Ton 3/2007: ""Unexpected" is the first term that came to my mind, listening to this speaker. Apparently, it worked out since the sound is much bigger than expected. But it would be certainly wrong to describe the sound from this Italo duo as fat, it's rather crisp and tight. Particularly, bass from drums and synth are the Obelisk's forte, the sound is surely bursting with energy. That there is something lack at extreme low frequencies is easy to forgive, since it's only obvious when looking for it. And the mids / tops take advantage of this tight bass foundation. The two 17cm drivers don't miss a trick and hand over the reign to the Newtronics tweeter. Since this tweeter is going for a song the resolution is surprisingly good and the sound is anything but irritating. The total balance is also not disturbed by a noticeable raise of high frequencies. Only the slight peak just above 10 kHz displayed by the HT26 even "ex factory" remained. The Obelisk is no slouch in imaging. There are no pseudo-effects, but the stage is still amazing. Imaging and overall tonal balance can still be adjusted by angling the speakers. When placed parallel to the walls the speakers produce a softer and wider sound, while they show a bit more pep when angled towards the listener."
