Floorstanding Speakers

The Shelf Speaker

The shelf speaker is smaller than the floorstanding one; the term "shelf" is not justified because this type of speaker is not necessarily placed on a shelf. Shelf speakers should ideally be placed about 70 cm from the side wall and between 30 cm and 50 cm from the rear wall, so that a sound stage with width and depth develops. We stock shelf speaker kits from all major driver manufacturers.

Alcone by RCM

Mini

Alcone manufactures high quality midrange and bass drivers. These drivers are known for their rigid cones, and yet they show only a moderate resonance.

Highly recommendable is the small all-round speaker Lagrange XT. More reasonably priced solutions are the kits Mini (picture above left) and Mini 65. Due to its ribbon tweeter the Nova is a speaker with brilliant three-dimensionality while the high-end project Lagrange 98- equipped with ScanSpeak tweeter - shows an excellent attention to detail.

Eton

Eton produces loudspeakers with Hexacone sandwich cones.

Excel

Excel is one of the Seas brands (see below), which are produced in Norway. They produce very hard cones made of magnesium. An example for a floorstanding is E-Motion. Due to the low tuning (the bass extends to 20 Hz) the E-Motion is not suited for extreme volumes.

Focal

Focal is a well known brand. Focal was founded in 1980 in France. Loudspeakes with W-cone and the reversed dome tweeter is a hallmak of Focal.

Fostex

Peerless

Peerless, Tymphany’s world-renowned brand of transducers, was founded in Denmark in 1926.
